Mark Study
Also known as "Manuscript study", this method of studying the bible covers a passage or
book using just the actual text, without any verse numbers, chapter divisions, headings,
or notes on the bottom of the page. Usually tcfers begin with the book of Mark (hence
the name), one of the books that detail the life of Jesus himself. Emphasis is not on
what you have already learned in church or in bible study but on exactly what the text
is saying to you and the community. Mark Study is a great way to discover the Bible with
your friends. You do not have to be a bible guru/know-it-all to participate.

MARKSTUDY INSIDER:
Here are some of the techniques used to study the Bible.
1. Read through the passage quickly
2. Read through the passage looking for and marking:
- Thought units—paragraphs.
- Title paragraphs
- Key words and phrases—repetitions, similarities, contrasts, cause and effects
- Unusual details in time, geography, relationships; also action verbs and verb tenses.
3. Read through for feeling and imagery (put yourself in the situation).
4. What major themes or ideas continue to come up? How are these ideas connected? What
seems to be the main theme of this section?
5. How do the main ideas apply to your life? (take specific ones)
